A beautiful session for three very special little girls.

Inspiration: These three little girls are extra special to me, as their mother isn’t only a fabulous photographer herself, but a dear friend of mine. The inspiration really came from our love of everything vintage, the gorgeous evening sunlight we get here in Australia and of course the little girls themselves who adore everything pink and girly. Over a few weeks, we discussed the session, props and clothing. We begged, borrowed and baked, until we felt we had everything we needed.
Favourite Element: Being able to document the closeness of the girls, and how truly beautiful they are, has to be my favourite element of this session. The light this particular evening was also devine and of course our gathering of ‘props’ paid off, as when the scene was set, it looked amazing.
Biggest Challenge: Getting that ‘right spot’ for the light to be slightly diffused. In the end we chose under the large tree, as the branches and leaves not only diffused the light, but gave us fabulous sun flare.
What The Client Said: The girls Mum was thrilled with the images, and is still my friend so I think I did ok
Photographer’s Final Words: For this particular session, preparation was the key element. We both had a ‘vision’, and set to work to ‘make’ it happen. We begged and borrowed props. We visited the location in the evening to assess the light, then finally we put it all together. It was fun for the girls too, and afterwards we all got to eat the cup cakes.

Inspiration: my absolute love to preserve and ‘rekindle’ those childhood memories from when I was growing up (in the errrrr 70′s and 80′s). Remember those long, hot summers where they days seemed endless and were filled with exploring the backyard, playing hopscotch on the pavement, jumping rope with the neighbors and of course, making freshly, squeezed lemonade. Summers were bliss.
Favorite Element: has to be the props we made especially for this session. A lot of thought and preparation went into it. My wonderful husband, Mark, made the lemonade stand (he actually made three, but the perfectionist in me wasn’t happy with the first two ~ oops)! I made the hessian sacks and stenciled on ‘Lemons’ & ‘Limes’, and we both traipsed around the antique shops and markets looking for the perfect accessories.
Biggest Challenge: let’s just the say, the lemonade stand isn’t the most portable and lightest of objects!
What the Client’s said: “Annie you’re amazing! Oh my goodness, this is so exciting, we just love the album! Thank you”
Photographer’s final words: If you have an idea, but you’re not sure it’ll ‘work’, throw everything at it! Put in 110% effort. Speak to the client’s and discuss the finer details. My client’s were amazing and prepared for the session so well, right down to the beauty-full clothing and hair accessories. Beg and borrow props if you have to, but always, always ‘give it a go’!

Inspiration: my love of everything vintage and retro, my old cameras and of course a cute little Miss N and sweet, sweet sunlight. All of these are my inspiration. All of these made my heart sing this day.
Favorite Element: for this session it was most definitely little Miss N. Such an amazing little girl, very sweet natured, curious and just adored the props we played with.
Biggest Challenge: the location. Not a ‘huge’ challenge, but I do think shooting in the woods in dappled light is difficult. Sometimes though, you just have to ‘go for it’!
What the Client said: “OMG Annie! How perfect are you! How will we ever choose? Amazing, once again thank you”
Photographer’s Final Words: In what had been weeks and weeks of relentless rain, the sun peeked out for a few minutes. When this happens, be quick! Know how your camera reacts to light, then shoot straight into the light. Sometimes you simply have no choice, and sometimes, you can surprise yourself

I’ve always visualised myself as a ‘collector of light’. Like all photographers, I adore light. I ‘see’ it and ‘feel’ it everywhere I go. Thats right, I feel light. It’s warm, and comforting. It flows like golden syrup across valley’s, down hills and over streams. It wraps itself around little toes and lights up faces. Light is simply, beautiful.
Inspiration: Never is the light more beautiful, than during our winter, and never have I seen it look more spectacular, than in a sugar cane field whilst doing the daily school run. I pulled the car over several times just to watch how the rays of sunlight flowed over the field, and how it lit up the tips of the grasses. I decided after one evening drive out to the field, that this was the place, and this was the light to capture a session based on our memories of childhood. Those memories? Well having three boys, it had to be little super heros.
Favourite Element: can I have two? Aside from the golden light, the cape! What a find! It was custom made for me, by Wendy from Little Hero Designs. I found her on Facebook. She even pressed it and drove it out to me the morning of the session.
Biggest Challenge: keeping the little men motivated until the sunlight diffused! We did lots of running around being super heros, gave stacks of encouragement and of course had some treats.
What the Clients Said? They absolutely adored them. Mum said little Master R had never looked so angelic.
Photographer’s Final Words: If you have an idea, no matter how mad it seems, give it a go! It will eat away at you otherwise, then you’ll be full of regrets that you didn’t try it. Whilst planning this session, I visited the location several times and checked the light and also looked for different viewpoints. I made sketches of any poses I thought might work and I discussed clothing co ordination with the parents. They really made the session, especially when they turned up with superman tee shirts! Perfect!
