    Happy Friday: Modern Nursery Inspiration!

February 3, 2012 | Posted by Kristen the designer

    Modern Whimsical

    Modern Bright

    Modern Eclectic

We did a post awhile back dedicated to vintage nurseries, so today we have a follow up all about modern nurseries! I stumbled upon a wonderful site the other day called On To Baby! It is an adorable website featuring all kinds of great tips, information, and gorgeous inspiration for moms from all walks of life. They had an amazing section dedicated solely to nursery decor so I decided to feature a few of their modern nursery shares today – but there are many, many more! All kinds of themes, colors and nursery styles to look through, along with inspiration for showers, birthday parties and everything in between. I also noticed a few NAPCP members featured on their site :) Enjoy!

    Happy Friday everyone!

    Clients’ Photo Displays

August 29, 2010 | Posted by Linda De Los Reyes

Besides the actual photo shoot, one of the things I love doing with my clients is sitting down with them to whittle down the many fabulous images to the favorite few. This is a process that generally takes about one hour, sometimes longer, sometimes less. This particular client knew exactly where she wanted to put her favorite images – on her bedroom wall near the sitting area. This is a space reserved for complete relaxation after a long day at work or running around with her kids. She wanted to be able to look up at her wall, see her children and smile.

We started with ideas for a mix of portraits and storyboards as there were so many images she wanted to display. But as we filtered through the photos, she realized that what she really wanted was a simple, uncluttered look on her wall. With large portraits of her favorites, she would be able to enjoy each one more fully. Since she has two children, we decided on the best single image each of her daughter, son and the kids together. In the chosen image of her daughter, she loved the gleeful look in her eyes as she shoveled yet another pile of sand into the bucket. In the photo of her son, she loved how the image displayed his natural exuberance and playful spirit. And the middle image of her son and daughter together touched her heart because it shows how close the two of them are. (The side portraits are 16″ x 20″ and the middle portrait is 20″ x 20″)

In fact, each of her kids really wanted to have a photo of them together in each of their rooms. Since it would be in her kids’ rooms, Mom decided to make them extra special and went with 1.5″ deep canvases. The one in her daughter’s room (left, yellow wall) is 16″ x 16″ and the one in her son’s room is 16″ x 20″ (right, blue wall).

Another client of mine just happened to be an interior designer. This was obvious when I saw how she set up her twin sons’ nursery. It looked like a room straight out of Pottery Barn. It is beautiful, to say the least. She reserved the wall above the cribs for baby photos. She loved the baby parts storyboard idea but wanted to somehow include her and her husband’s images in there as well since someday, she plans to give her sons their storyboards. I thought it was a fabulous idea (how I would have loved to have photos of my own mom and dad when I was born!). These storyboards are 16″ x 16″.

I love it when my clients send me photos (or have me come over to take some photos) of how they displayed their images. Not only does it warm my heart to see art I created on their walls, it gives other families ideas to consider when they have their photos done.

Happy Friday: Great Ideas for Nursery and Kid Room Decor!

August 20, 2010 | Posted by Kristen the designer

Hello everyone! We are starting a new series of posts to end each week called Happy Fridays! I will be posting about new blogs, crafts, recipes, decorating, and much more! Just a fun way to kick off the weekend and share some cool goodies!

This first post is all about nursery and kid room decor! I have stumbled across some really great finds recently that I just had to share with everyone.

    MOBILES:

Mobiles are a great accessory when decorating a nursery. Flensted is a fun site I found with several modern and colorful mobiles. They have something for everyone!

    WALL DECALS:

One of my favorite new interior design elements are wall decals! They are super easy to install and can change the entire feel of a room. Visit Wall Tat’s website for available designs.

    FRAMED PIECES:

A more traditional approach to decorating is to incorporate some framed pieces in your child’s room. With so many new great options on the web and in stores, don’t be afraid to do something a little more personal and unique!

These crafty prints came from Tara Hogan’s Etsy store. She sells a couple different styles, but all are absolutely adorable. Etsy is a great place to find original framed art.

These are custom made alphabet prints from the Hoot Design Company. They are a great addition to any room and never go out of style. The fun colors would also make them easy to match with almost any bedroom setup!

Well that’s it for this week! Stay tuned every Friday for new tips, ideas, inspiration and more!

Guest Contributor: Chaffee Braithwaite of b braithwaite

July 25, 2010 | Posted by Alice Park

We are so delighted to introduce one of our absolute favorite baby boutiques and the amazing lady behind it.  b braithwaite was started five years ago by Chaffee Braithwaite and her mom – renowned interior designer Nancy Braithwaite – in the hopes of bringing a new shopping experience for expecting parents to Atlanta.  They believe that the experience is just as important as the service and product selection. Expecting parents are excited and nervous, and they aim to create a calming environment where they can personally guide them through their purchases and registries.

When photographing my little subject’s nurseries, I often look for the same clean, sophisticated design that I see inside of Chaffee’s store.  Every single detail – from the gorgeous packaging, to the light-filled, modern aesthetics, to the full selection of ultra-chic baby products – make shopping, registering, and browsing such a joy there.

Chaffee and her mom have redefined chic nursery design and created the ultimate one-stop destination for clients who want a boutique shopping experience with hands on customer service.  We are so thrilled to have Chaffee join us…

You have a gorgeous storefront.  Tell us about what was involved in designing your space and all of the little details.
My mom, Nancy Braithwaite, is a renowned interior designer- so she is fully responsible for the beautiful store design. When it came to designing the space, she had a vision of an all white space. Inside she created several individual rooms, which she continuously creates new vignettes. We both get bored easily and enjoy changing the displays. My mom loves big visuals and we thought the bunny and bear topiaries would be a charming way to welcome our clients to the store. We bought small stuffed animals that local artists recreated in small clay sculptures. We tweaked their positions in the smaller form. They then created the larger versions out of fiberglass and hand covered them in the topiary.

What are some of the names that you carry?
Stokke, Bloom, Serena & Lily, Kissy Kissy, Rachel Riley, Angel Dear, Monte Design, Orbit Baby, Graco, Uppa Baby, Storksak, Boon, Nourish and the list goes on and on!

What products are your clients gravitating most towards these days?
Strollers are a very important decision for our clients. Strollers today are not what our parents used! They are multi-functional, and offer lots of options. We spend a lot of time walking them through their options and helping them select a stroller that suits their needs.

They are also looking for special and unique gifts. We work hard to bring items to the store that are otherwise not easily found- beautiful mobiles from France, musical animals from Germany, even customized gifts we create in store.

Which toys are the most popular amongst your babies and children?
There are several top sellers depending on the age. Sophie the Giraffe teether, which has been around for years, is one of our best-sellers for the infant category.

The Bilibo is a great seller- I love this product because it’s all about a child’s imagination- parents look at the toy and always wonder what it does; but if you hand it to a child, they are off and thinking of new things to do with it- it’s the old concept of a cardboard box. Perfect for children age 2-7.

For boys, I love the Playsam collection- great as a gift or they can be used for decoration.

And one of my favorites are the plush animal houses. All the animals are removable and there are lots of choices. Kids of all ages, and adults, love them!

What advice can you give parents when decorating their new baby’s nursery?
Enjoy the process and remember there are no rules! Parents are so overwhelmed with all the choices and decisions to make- and it can sometimes take away from the excitement of the actual pregnancy. This is a wonderful time in their lives. They should stick with their instincts, and not let others over-influence their choices. I also suggest investing in pieces that will last a while. For instance, always buy a crib that converts into a toddler bed. Buy a great dresser that you can use forever- you can put a tray or a changing pad right on top.

We’ll be visiting with Chaffee and b braithwaite again in the near future to find out more about their fabulous finds and sophisticated philosophy on nursery decor.  Meanwhile, stay tuned later this week!  You may just find a sweet giveaway from this beautiful boutique!

Baby Nurseries: Designing for your baby boy or girl

June 10, 2010 | Posted by Alice Park

Often times when I choose a location to photograph a baby, I go straight to their nursery.  Aside from always being filled with the most beautiful natural light, every detail of the room has been carefully handpicked with all of the love in the world. Their nursery is a reflection of mom, dad, and baby – all lovingly wrapped up into a stunning space.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be discussing beautiful elements in nursery decor, while bringing in guest contributors to share their insight and expert opinions.  If you have any particular questions, please feel free to share it with us in the Comments section.

Meanwhile, here are a few nurseries I photographed that illustrate easy tips for designing for either a baby boy or girl.  Gender neutral rooms are often my favorite, as they’re practical as much as they are lovely.

    1.  Create a room you adore.  No matter what the design — be it ultramodern, eclectic or my favorite, traditional — in the end a nursery needs to please only your baby and you.

    2.  Paint the walls a color that you love.  Consider sophisticated color combinations for your nursery like sage green and white or light blue and brown. Choose a palette that reflects the rest of your home’s décor.  Neutral doesn’t have to mean boring.

    3.  Get some grown-up furniture for baby. An armoire, for instance, is practical, chic and remains useful as your child grows up.  Love this shot with Ford reading in his room.

    4.  Add in pops of color to keep the room fresh and fun. I love how Knox’s room is simple, sophisticated, and a place he knows he can play and have fun in.

    5.  Hang plenty of family pictures on the walls. Babies of either gender benefit from the visual stimulation these items provide.  NAPCP will post more on this particular tip… ;)
