About Willy

Willy Wilson is a Denver-based photographer, artist, and educator with over 16 years of experience running Life Unstill Photography. Known for her bold, award-winning portraits and collaborative approach, she specializes in branding, senior portraits, and underwater photography. Her work has been featured in both print and online publications, and in 2023, she was named 2022 Photographer of the Year by the National Association of Portrait & Child Photographers. Willy is also a frequent speaker, workshop host, and juror for creative competitions.

In addition to her client work, Willy maintains a robust studio art practice focused on storytelling, materiality, and transformation. She uses her own photographs as raw material—printing on surfaces like teabags, foil, fabric, and found paper—to explore the boundaries between photography, craft, and contemporary art. Her artist books and mixed-media pieces have been exhibited and collected, and her process-oriented approach informs her mentoring on creative direction, personal projects, and visual voice development.

Willy is also deeply committed to community engagement. She founded a volunteer initiative that provides free senior portraits to graduating teen parents, coordinating photographers, stylists, and support teams to honor their accomplishments. She has taught vocational and creative workshops, including underwater portrait intensives and an Artist’s Way–inspired course for photographers. Her ability to combine creative risk-taking with real-world systems makes her a valuable resource for photographers looking to balance inspiration with sustainability.

As a mentor, Willy works best with photographers who are ready to evolve—creatively, technically, and artistically. She supports those ready to refine their visual voice, expand their service offerings, elevate their competition submissions, strengthen their creative practice, and explore photography as a meaningful art form—not just a service. Her feedback is honest, thoughtful, and grounded in decades of experience, making her an ideal guide for photographers who are technically capable but hungry for more.
